Marvel’s Ironheart Disney+ series premiered on June 24, and as expected, there’s a large section of the MCU fanbase that isn’t willing to leave Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams alone. Since the show’s announcement, many fans have gone berserk, believing that the series not only tarnishes Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark legacy but also promotes unnecessary wokeness. As a result, welcome the latest victim of review bombing.
While the critic score for Ironheart on Rotten Tomatoes looks promising—currently a 70% ‘fresh’ score—the audience score hasn’t been as kind. It dropped as low as 32% during the early hours of the show’s release. However, since then, it has increased substantially to 65%, which still looks decent, considering how many shows have been viciously review-bombed in recent months.
By no means are we saying that Ironheart has recovered fabulously. But an audience rating of 65% shows that people are at least willing to give it a chance, a chance that shows like The Acolyte or The Last of Us Season 2 never really got. Yes, the show is far from being called a masterpiece, but it has its moments and works well.
However, things aren’t looking optimistic for Ironheart on other prominent review platforms such as IMDb. So far, the new MCU Disney+ series has received a very low score of 4.2 out of 10, based on over 7.4k reviews.
Scenarios like these often force big production houses to back off from such types of projects. Review bombing by fanbases was undoubtedly one of the main reasons behind The Acolyte’s cancellation by Lucasfilm and Disney. Now, a similar situation may arise for Ironheart.
