Who is going to play James Bond in the next Bond instalment? It’s a question that has been bothering the franchise’s fans for a long time now. After months of speculation from fans, we finally have a solid update about Bond 26.
Amazon MGM Studios executive Jennifer Salke has addressed the current status of the upcoming Bond flick. She has also talked about the actors who are currently being considered for the role of the prominent MI6 agent.
“There are a lot of ideas [about potential actors] that have popped up that I thought are interesting. I think there are a lot of different ways we can go. We have a good and close relationship with Eon and Barbara and Michael. We are not looking to disrupt the way those wonderful films are made. For us, we are taking their lead.”
Salke’s recent comments reveal that the development of Bond 26 is yet to pick up pace, as executives are taking things slow. This approach makes sense, as they are looking for the right actor to portray Ian Fleming’s iconic creation. Most importantly, they need a young actor who will be available for at least four to five Bond movies, much like his predecessors. According to some online reports, executives are looking to reinvent the entire James Bond franchise, which has contributed to the delay of Bond 26.
While fans have suggested various actors for the role of James Bond, the most popular and persistent rumour is that Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson might be the next to take on the iconic character. The Sun even reported that the actor has talked with Barbara Broccoli about the next Bond movie, as her team wants to cast a young British actor for the role.
Gladiator 2’s Paul Mescal is another frontrunner who is being eyed for 007’s tuxedo. As for Henry Cavill, the former Man of Steel star was very close to getting the role in Casino Royale (2006) but missed out, as he was only 22 at the time. Now, he may not get to play James Bond, as he is considered a bit too old (44) for the role. Even if a new Bond is confirmed in the coming days, production for Bond 26 will likely commence sometime in 2026 or 2027. Stay tuned for more updates.
