The excitement among the majority of the DC fanbase about James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet, is growing with each passing day. According to online rumours, the first official trailer for the highly anticipated DC project may debut in mid-December. However, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is reportedly dissatisfied with the film’s initial footage.
A new rumour about WBD allegedly interfering with Gunn’s Superman has spread like wildfire on social media, reaching a point where the head of DC Studios felt compelled to address the matter.
Prominent American journalist Dan Marcus claims that WBD is unhappy with the finalised version of the Superman trailer and has instructed Gunn to “make it better.” This reportedly left the movie’s marketing team feeling “gutted.” Check out the following tweet for more details!
To clarify, since every trailer necessitates multiple cuts, apparently the editor cutting the trailer presented a fairly finalized version to the studio weeks ago. The studio wasn't happy and said "Make it better". I wouldn't want to be a part of the marketing department over…

This situation has prompted Gunn to address the matter on Threads. The acclaimed filmmaker clarified that only DC Studios, led by himself and Peter Safran, is involved in preparing the movie’s first trailer. This suggests that Warner Bros. Discovery may not have interfered with the trailer at all. Here’s what Gunn said:
“Well, sort of. But when he says “studio” that’s solely me, as the only studio involved in cutting or anything to do with the trailer is DC Studios i.e. me & Peter (& I’m the creatively demanding one). This is the exact same rigorous process I’ve gone through cutting every Guardians trailer, pushing the marketing folks as hard as I can, cutting & recutting until I think we have something worthy of the film itself. All that said, my notes are a lot more specific than “make it better”.”
Gunn’s comments make sense, as he has worked closely on Superman and overseen key aspects of its production beyond direction. Additionally, as co-head of DC Studios, the approval of the movie’s first trailer would logically rest solely with Gunn and Safran.
Expectations are sky-high for both the trailer and the movie. Superman, the first film in DC Studios’ new Gods and Monsters chapter, is set to become the cornerstone of the franchise.
The upcoming trailer will mark the first official glimpse of Superman. A more extensive trailer is expected to follow in early 2025, ahead of the film’s July release. Only time will tell how the first trailer is received. The world’s reaction to the initial footage will be the ultimate test. Stay tuned for more updates!
