Netflix’s new limited series, Black Rabbit, has opened to a highly positive response. Its early reviews are glowing, with critics praising the performances of the leading duo, Jason Bateman and Jude Law.
Netflix already has a terrific record when it comes to delivering outstanding limited series. The streamer dropped Beef in 2023, Baby Reindeer bagged the Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series last year, and this year, Adolescence took home the accolade. Many reviews have already declared Black Rabbit a strong frontrunner for Netflix in 2026.
The series debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and consists of eight gripping episodes. Apart from Bateman, another Ozark alum is part of this series: Laura Linney. This time, however, she won’t be sharing the screen with Bateman. Instead, she directed the third and fourth episodes of the show.
Early reviews have hailed Black Rabbit as a sharp and unsettling thriller that’s hard to stop watching. Many have also highlighted the brotherly chemistry between Jude Law and Jason Bateman, with the latter’s performance earning particular acclaim.
Reviewers also praise the show’s fast pace, stylish direction, and its ability to explore dark human passions. Some critics, however, find the plot somewhat repetitive. Overall, the consensus is that Black Rabbit is a compelling and hard-hitting drama.
Troy Kotsur, an Oscar winner, delivers a standout, commanding performance as the intimidating mob boss Joe Mancuso, despite only having a supporting role.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Black Rabbit currently holds a ‘fresh’ score of 77%, which is expected to rise after its September 18 premiere.
