If a film is envisioned in two or three parts by a single artist then it is usually good ar at least tolerable. But, what really happens is “capitalism”. We are not talking about the political pole of capitalism and communism. What we are talking about is the tendency of producers to capitalise on the success of the first part and make the second part haphazard.
Take the case of an Indian film. Hasseen Dillruba is a decent pulp fiction that offers a lot of entertainment. Sadly, Netflix India brought the second part and we must say that “Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba” is nothing less than a disappointment.
But, let’s tell you that it is not an Indian problem. It is a global problem for Netflix. You see, La Casa De Papel/Money Heist was supposed to run only for two seasons but the unimaginable success forced it to run for 5 seasons plus a spin-off series which ultimately destroyed the simplicity of the series.
Similarly, Extraction 2 suffered the same fate. The latest victim of the same is “The Platform 2”. It used to be one of the finest Netflix Originals but the second part destroyed the reputation. The Kissing Booth 2 is another example of the same. Although its first part was not good it still had some fans. Thanks to Netflix, it lost even that.
To sum it up, Netflix needs to focus on script and direction rather than greed of capitalisation. Metaphorically speaking, it slips its way through the sequel. Then only it would get good part twos.
