Oscar Isaac and Ana de Armas are set to star in David O. Russell’s Bananas, an upcoming Apple TV+ series. Both actors will also serve as executive producers on the project.
It’s been more than a decade since Russell delivered a blockbuster. His filmmaking career hit an all-time low with Amsterdam (2022), a movie so disastrous that even its star-studded cast—including Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, John David Washington, Zoe Saldaña, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro—could not save it.
Russell is looking to regain the Hollywood spotlight with his upcoming Apple TV+ series, which he will executive produce alongside Isaac and de Armas.
Reportedly, Russell and his team are keeping the plot details of Bananas under wraps. This means no one knows what the show is about yet. However, we do know that Carolina Paiz, best known for her work on Orange Is the New Black and Narcos, is writing the series. Could it involve crime? Who knows? Meanwhile, Deadline has revealed that the show’s working title refers to “banana republics,” a term used to describe economically and politically unstable nations, often in regions like Central America.
The ‘Bananas’ Apple TV+ series has yet to receive a release window. The series will mark Ana de Armas’ English-language television debut. She will also appear in the upcoming John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, which is set to hit theatres worldwide on June 6, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
