Episode 1 of Peacemaker Season 2 is now streaming on HBO Max (JioHotstar for Indian viewers). Back when Season 1 premiered in 2022, things at DC and Warner Bros. were a complete mess. At the time, both studios had lost sight of the DCEU and had no idea what to do with the Zack Snyder-originated franchise.
As a result, Peacemaker Season 1, while being an amazing show on its own, didn’t quite fit within the dimensions of the DCEU, as its filming style and overall tone vastly differed from other projects in the universe.
The events in the Season 1 finale left many DC fans wondering how the hell James Gunn could establish a proper connection between the first season and the second. Well, he did it, simply by retconning an important scene from the Season 1 finale.

In that finale, the Justice League (Superman, Aquaman, the Flash, and Wonder Woman) arrived after the climactic battle had already ended, a moment Leota Adebayo had arranged by calling her mother, Amanda Waller. The scene featured a brief, comical exchange between the characters.
However, the Season 2 prelude alters this scene. Adebayo now asks her mother to call the “Justice Gang.” When this new group arrives late, the silhouettes are different: Mr. Terrific, Superman, Guy Gardner (Green Lantern), Hawkgirl, and Supergirl.
The revised version also adds dialogue referencing a past encounter between Peacemaker and Guy Gardner. This swap replaces the original Justice League cameo and better aligns with James Gunn’s vision for the new DC Universe.

Interestingly, Gunn originally wanted to give Peacemaker Season 1 the full “George Lucas treatment” by altering several scenes, but he ultimately settled on a few changes, since reworking too much would have been way too expensive.
Gunn believes this change to the Peacemaker finale is a minor issue for most viewers. He notes that since two years have passed since the episode aired, many people likely won’t remember the details of a brief cameo that never really impacted the plot.
But this isn’t just a simple edit, it’s a strategic move that separates Peacemaker from the old DCEU and firmly plants it in the new DCU. By replacing the iconic Justice League with a fresh lineup of characters like Mr. Terrific and Guy Gardner, Gunn is signalling that his DCU is a brand-new world, and the DCEU is officially dead.
The two-year gap between seasons means the original scene is a distant memory for many. The real takeaway is that Peacemaker is no longer a footnote to a failing cinematic universe; it’s now a core pillar of a new one. This shift gives the show and its characters a renewed sense of purpose and a clear path forward, making the journey into Season 2 all the more exciting for fans ready to embrace the DCU reboot.
