Fans of Netflix’s Arcane series are hyped for the upcoming battle between Piltover and Zaun in the forthcoming Season 2. Series co-creator Christian Linke has provided a highly positive update about the impending war, which should elevate your excitement for the next season to a whole new level.
Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane revolves around sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell), who develop conflict over clashing convictions and arcane technologies amidst the rising unrest between Piltover—a utopian city built for the rich and powerful—and Zaun, the city’s poor and oppressed underbelly.
In his recent interview with Screen Rant, Linke discussed the significance of the forthcoming battle and the challenges it presented for the creators. He also disclosed that an hour-long episode will be dedicated to capturing the war, making it the longest episode in the show’s history. This is what he said:
“It’s a big thing. You’ll see all of it. I would say, with this season, and kind of the climax of it, when we mapped it out first, it just looked impossible. It just looked impossible. Fortiche was like, “We can’t do this. This episode is going to be over an hour long.” And we’re like, “F–k.” We just had to figure out how to somehow clobber this into a shape that is producible, and I’m very, very, very happy with how it turned out.”
Arcane has been teasing the war and showcasing the differences between Piltover and Zaun right from its very first episode, which opens with young Vi and Jinx trying to make ends meet by stealing magical crystals from a Piltover penthouse along with Mylo and Claggor. As we reach Season 1’s finale, we see the sisterly duo at each other’s throats over their differing opinions on the intra-city war. Vi realizes that her little sister is gone, while Jinx, affected by Silco’s death, finally accepts her dangerous and deranged persona and launches a deadly attack on Piltover.
Season 1 depicts Piltover as a place for the wealthy and powerful, a sign of hope and happiness. On the flip side, Zaun is mired in filth and garbage; even its air is unbreathable. Thanks to Silco, the notorious drug Shimmer has poisoned many of its residents. The hatred Zaun feels for Piltover is countered by the latter’s fear of Zaun’s filthy and dangerous inhabitants. There is no denying that the war between these places will also test the bond between Vi and Jinx. We may even see a duel between the two, alongside the unfolding war. Who knows? Let’s see what happens!
Arcane Season 2 will come out in three different installments, each representing a different act: Act I on November 9, Act II on November 16, and Act III on November 23, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
