Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, aka Red Hulk, is set to encounter Anthony Mackie’s Cap in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, which is scheduled for theatrical release in February next year. His actions as Red Hulk will likely have long-lasting and seriously adverse consequences for Ross in the MCU, potentially setting up storylines for Thunderbolts*, another major MCU release slated for May 2025. Here’s what Ford has said about his future appearances in the MCU.
In his recent interview with Empire Magazine, Ford talked about what the future holds for his character. “I’m awaiting my new assignment. I think it will be fascinating to see where that character goes if he goes anywhere.”
Good try, Harrison Ford! It seems Kevin Feige has ensured he understands the consequences of spoiling MCU secrets. Just kidding! However, numerous reports suggest that Ross will reportedly appear in Thunderbolts* as well. Logically, it’s hard to imagine the prominent antihero faction existing without Ross.
Given that Ross will likely be bested by Captain America in Brave New World, his appearance in Thunderbolts* makes perfect sense. We might see a completely new version of Ross—more vulnerable and desperate than before. He could potentially lose his presidency and be forced to live as an ordinary citizen in Thunderbolts*.
Marvel is keeping all the cards close to its chest when it comes to the forthcoming Jake Schreier project. We don’t know much about the movie’s plot. But we do know that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is playing the dice. But is she really controlling the Thunderbolts? Ross could be the main guy who ends up controlling the faction.
It’s quite clear that Marvel Studios cannot kill Ross, aka Red Hulk, in Brave New World. He is too big of a character to be killed just after one appearance. We should expect him to appear in Thunderbolts as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
