Following his well-deserved Golden Globe win, Sebastian Stan is all set to appear as Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thunderbolts*. This Jake Schreier-directed film will conclude the MCU’s Phase Five.
Making things more exciting are Stan’s recent comments, which reveal that the movie won’t be a CGI-heavy project, unlike many of Marvel’s other projects.
In his recent interview with Deadline, Stan talked about Thunderbolts*, which is scheduled to hit the theatres globally on May 2. He promised that the movie would be “its own thing”, and added, “I don’t feel you can compare it to any previous Marvel movie, and that’s because of the group of characters in this film and these actors.
I couldn’t have had a better time than I did with David Harbour, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. I mean, every single one of these people are funny, they’re generous, and so I think a lot of that chemistry did make it into the movie, and I’m excited for people to see that.”
Thunderbolts* being less reliant on CGI and showcasing more practical stunts and fights is certainly a positive sign for fans, as the best of MCU movies have followed a similar trait, such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.
While giants like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame have shattered numerous box office records, projects like The Winter Soldier and Civil War have managed to stand out from the rest of the MCU movies. These movies hold a special place in the hearts of fans, and their preference for practical stunts and effects has certainly played a key role in their status in fans’ minds.
This scenario is also good for Thunderbolts* as practical effects often create more believable and impactful visuals compared to CGI. Plus, actors can react to real elements, so we could witness more natural performances from the talents in the movie.
The nature of the Thunderbolts* characters makes them ideally suited for practical stunts and effects. Unlike superheroes like Hulk or Iron Man, who rely heavily on CGI, most Thunderbolts are grounded in reality, being soldiers or spies.
This means the movie can focus on real-world action and stunts, creating a more authentic and potentially more thrilling cinematic experience. This approach signifies a departure from the heavily CGI-driven style often seen in recent MCU films. Stay tuned for more updates.
