The Diplomat Season 3: Netflix’s Finest Political Drama

By Binged Bureau - Oct 16, 2025 @ 05:10 pm
The Diplomat Season 3: Netflix’s Finest Political Drama

The Diplomat Season 3 has arrived on Netflix, this time with eight episodes, and the early reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with many critics calling it the strongest season of the political thriller series yet.

Critics are praising the season’s electric, breakneck pace, which sustains the momentum and urgency established by the Season 2 finale. The show is being described as an effortlessly original and near-flawless political thriller.

The new season immediately tackles the fallout from the President’s death and the ascension of Grace Penn (Allison Janney), forcing major changes within the U.S. political hierarchy and testing long-standing alliances in London.

Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell are being hailed as the MVPs of Season 3. The addition of Bradley Whitford alongside Allison Janney brings an organic West Wing reunion, providing both an intriguing mirror and a foil to the Wylers’ relationship.

Here’s what the early reviews are saying about The Diplomat Season 3:

The Guardian, in its four-star review, has declared The Diplomat Season 3 a rare and excellent successor to its previous installments. The publication praised the masterful performances of Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell and the complex, layered dynamic between their characters, Kate and Hal.

Variety also highlighted the “unhappy power couple” dynamic between Kate and Hal, calling the newest season the show’s “most compelling” yet.

Decider hailed Season 3 as “audacious” and “jaw-dropping,” applauding showrunner Debora Cahn for skillfully balancing the professional challenges of U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) with her deeply complicated personal life. Allison Janney’s performance as Grace Penn, the newly appointed U.S. President, has also been warmly received, as has the addition of Bradley Whitford, who adds another sharp layer to the ensemble.

ScreenRant, in its 7-out-of-10 review, called Season 3 the “strongest” and “most confident” entry of The Diplomat so far. The review praised the season’s tight pacing, deeper character exploration, and expanded episode count, eight this time, up from six in Season 2. ScreenRant also noted that the third season deftly balances romance, drama, and humour while maintaining its politically serious edge.

CBR called Season 3 “Netflix’s best political thriller,” applauding the cast’s powerful performances and the season’s compelling twists. The review also highlighted how the show continues to explore the messy yet captivating intersection of power, love, and international relations.

Finally, TV Insider rated The Diplomat Season 3 a perfect five out of five stars, calling it “the most sensational political drama since The West Wing.” The outlet praised Russell’s fierce performance and the way her chemistry with Sewell makes the Wylers one of TV’s most fascinating and emotionally volatile couples.

Stream The Diplomat Season 3 now on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates.
