The Wild Robot has been crowned by the audience as the best dreamworks animation ever. The studio has cooked up a beautiful story. It has the beautiful voices of Lupita Nyong’o, Kit Connor, and Pedro Pascal to bring it to life. The project was released along sde Megalopolis, and it has fared much better than that. All things considered, it must be easy to assume that the movie will be something the studio will cash upon and that it will have a longer run. Right?
Well, if you assumed that, then you are sorely mistaken. Even though the movie is the Oscar bet for the studio, it might just come to your home much sooner than you expected. Although the studio is yet to confirm, the movie might just have its digital release in a mere 18 days of its release.
The digital release for the wild robot is scheduled for 15 October. Which is quite peculiar, as the usual pattern for a digital release takes at the very least 28 days to come to the streaming platform. Even Kung Fu Panda 4 had a month-long run in theaters. While that was a rather weak performance, a movie like The Wild Robot demands a longer run.
The movie will be available on PVOD platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+ and will soon get shifted to Peacock. The movie is under deal regarding this migration of platforms. It seems as if the movie falls into this corporate trap to make money from the streaming numbers. Overall, the movie has been a commercial and critical success. It is quite sad to see a good movie being pulled out of theaters this soon; no wonder theaters are unable to keep up with their expenses.
