The finale of Stranger Things Season 5 is now streaming. This is the last episode of Stranger Things that you would ever see. But it has sparked a lot of discussion, especially around the final fight against Vecna. Many viewers were surprised by how short the battle was. After years of buildup and hype, the fight lasted only a few minutes, and for a lot of fans, it felt underwhelming.
What added to the disappointment was how familiar the scene felt. Similar fight sequences had already appeared in Season 3, with the same kind of intensity. Because this was the final episode of the entire series, viewers expected something much bigger and more memorable. Many hoped for a battle on the scale of Star Wars or Avengers, with higher stakes, longer screen time, and a sense of epic closure.
Instead, the finale focused more on emotion and character moments rather than spectacle. While some fans appreciated that choice, a large section of the audience felt let down. They believed the ultimate showdown with Vecna deserved more intensity and scale, especially since it marked the end of such a popular show.
Social media reactions have been mixed, but disappointment around the fight scene is hard to ignore. For a series known for raising the stakes every season, many viewers felt the final battle simply did not go far enough.
Stranger Things finale in cinema.
2-hour ‘epic’ event, but the big Vecna fight lasts ~5 mins after 55 mins of buildup. Dr. Kay (Linda Hamilton) hired for basically nothing. Then 40 mins of goodbyes. Playing it this safe after 5 seasons of buildup just didn’t hit. #StrangerThings— Ron Chops (@Chops_Ron) January 1, 2026
El and Vecna’s fight was lame and nothing we haven’t seen before. #StrangerThings

My biggest gripe with the last 2 seasons of #StrangerThings is the vecna v eleven fights. The duffers couldnt figure out how to make them fight in a way that wasn’t just them pushing each other back and forth they really should’ve brought in someone from marvel or Star Wars

The #StrangerThings finale was meh. Very predictable, very cookie cutter, very safe. It was also very anticlimactic, like absolutely zero new or mind-blowing info was revealed, even defeating Vecna was boring. Essentially the same fight scene as the one in the mall in s3. Lame.
