It’s that time of the year again. When everyone wants to be spooky, and no one does Halloween like Hollywood. We just got ourselves a trailer for Wolf Man. Directed by Leigh Whanell, the mind behind the 2020 horror flick The Invisible Man and the beloved Insidious Franchise, we have another classic monster horror movie lined up in 2025 with Christopher Abbot and Julia Garner as the leads.
The trailer has hints of body horror and a rather cheesy thriller feel to it. The movie will be based on the work of Curt Siodmak. The age-old trope of the man within the beast is clearly visible. And although it has been overused in the past, there is in fact a peculiar appeal to it that stories keep reverting back to it.
Recently, a number of these “classic” monster movies have been produced. Guilermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, starring Jacob Elordi, and the much-awaited Nosferatu from Robert Eggers are already on the list. Whanell’s The Invisble Man is also a classic horror character, which was much more prevalent in the early history of horror movies. Back in the 1940s, there was a complete cinematic universe of these monsters. Boasting crossovers and sequels.
Even around 2014, Universal tried to reintroduce the concept but failed miserably. Could there be a possibility that all of these monster movies may lead to future crossovers? While it is highly unlikely, the modern cross-France project still brings the prospect into the realm of possibilities.
Wolf Man is set to release on 17 January 2025.
