Showrunner Jay Oliva has provided an update on Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas animated series, and it’s not good news. If you’re a diehard Snyder fan, brace yourself for another disappointment.
Snyder launched the Army of the Dead franchise with the 2021 film, which starred Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Ella Purnell (Netflix’s Arcane). It served as a spiritual successor to the director’s Dawn of the Dead (2004). While the film received moderate critical acclaim, it achieved massive viewership on Netflix, prompting the streamer to greenlight Lost Vegas.
However, things took a turn when Snyder recently revealed that development on Lost Vegas had been stalled for unknown reasons.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant at NY Comic-Con, Oliva was asked for an update on the planned Army of the Dead animated project. He disclosed that everything was ready before Netflix decided to pull the plug.
This is what he said:
“What I did with Zack on Lost Vegas was amazing, and it’s sad that you guys won’t see it. But there’s no reason that Netflix couldn’t revive it because all the pre-production was done. We were just in animation. All we had to do was to get it finished animated. But it looked great. In fact, what you see in Infinity: Paradise Lost is kind of like what it could look like, because the look of this was what I was trying to do with Lost Vegas.”
Oliva’s recent statement suggests that the future of Lost Vegas lies in the hands of Netflix’s executives. They could choose to revive the series, but it seems unlikely the project will see the light of day anytime soon. Although the streamer has a long-standing relationship with Snyder, it’s possible that a new deal between the filmmaker and Netflix could eventually bring the project back to life.
It appears that both Netflix and Snyder are currently more focused on developing the Rebel Moon franchise. If Lost Vegas ever does get released, the show may focus on the group’s heists and delve into the origins of the zombie outbreak. Let’s see how things unfold. Stay tuned for more updates.
