If you are looking for a movie to watch this weekend, here is a recommendation. ‘Battle Royale’ is a Japanese movie that came out in 2000 and influenced many action thrillers all over the world. The movie got so popular that it went on to be a subgenre of films itself.
The movie tells the story of a group of ninth grade students in Japan who are stranded on an Island with minimal resources and they have to fight a battle with each other for survival. While some of them choose to fight, others try to find a way of escaping the island.
The movie is directed by Kinji Fukasaku and is adapted from the novel of the same name by Koushun Takami. It stars actors like Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Tarō Yamamoto, Chiaki Kuriyama, Kou Shibasaki, Masanobu Andō, Beat Takeshi etc and the performances are beautiful.
The cinematography is handled by Katsumi Yanagishima and the music is given by composer Masamichi Amano. The audio-visual experience that the movie gives is awesome and the violence portrayed in the film is wonderfully artistic. Quentin Tarantino had said one time that the movie is one of his all time favourites. If you like violence in films you should not miss ‘Battle Royale’. The movie is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
