While Netflix continues to grow and become popular in every region. The streaming giant has swiftly taken over several countries with its diverse content. Being on top of the mountain of omnipotence, Netflix now has some serious issues with another platform sniffing around.
Netflix has risen through several new users each month in the UK but BBC iPlayer has now come up giving tough competition to the streaming giant.
Driven by innovation and storytelling from all around the UK, BBC iPlayer has shown impressive year-over-year growth and is surpassing all of its rivals across all audiences.
With a 20% increase so far this year, the genuinely unique British service is still setting records. The growth in viewing for BBC iPlayer is four times that of Channel 4, three times that of ITVX, and twice that of Netflix.
But what is making this huge wave in iPlayer? Well, a wide variety of experiences and content that are exclusive to BBC iPlayer are made available to viewers. The record numbers of visitors to iPlayer this summer, which have increased by 10% from the same period last year, highlight this.
Gladiators and The Traitors, The Apprentice, Race Across the World, Doctor Who, EastEnders, and The Jetty, as well as major live events like the General Election and Glastonbury, as well as sporting events with the Euros, Wimbledon, and Olympics, have all brought people together thanks to BBC iPlayer.
With that in mind, Netflix would look to strategize their content game in the UK as they are behind iPlayer damaging their dominance.
