K-dramas have gained significant traction on Indian watchlists, but the most popular one doesn’t quite identify itself as a K-drama. Squid Game, one of the biggest global hits in recent times, has become a household name.
Now, as Netflix India expands its ventures, the streaming giant is focusing on capturing a broader audience using one of its most successful strategies.
They are dubbing the show into several Indian languages.
What’s on the menu, you ask?
Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
On paper, this feels like a half-hearted attempt, as the show misses out on two other major southern languages—Kannada and Malayalam—which will undoubtedly dishearten some fans.
Is the attempt worthwhile? It is.
However, dubbing often comes with challenges, and a poorly executed dub can leave audiences with a bad experience.
So, while the effort is commendable, Netflix now needs to focus more on execution. The marketing of Squid Game 2 in India has been a smooth ride so far, with people already showing excitement. Promoting it may not be an issue, but ensuring its long-term success will be the real challenge.
