Honestly, what were the makers even thinking? Prime Video has launched the first official trailer for the Australian remake of ‘The Office’, and fans are not happy at all. We do have a perfect Michael Scott quote that will summarise this entire situation.
“I don’t hate it. I just don’t like it at all. And it’s terrible.”
Yup, that’s how bad things are for the upcoming remake.
The Australian The Office remake’s first trailer has received a mixed response from fans. Some are loving it, while others aren’t impressed.
The upcoming remake is the 13th variation of the globally prominent series. However, the Australian version differs from the rest mainly because it has a female lead. Popular comedian and actress Felicity Ward leads the series as Hannah Howard, the managing director of the fictional ‘Flinley Craddick’ packaging company. Ward has to step up and give this character the same kind of depth and humor that Ricky Gervais and Steve Carrell brought to David Brent and Michael Scott.
Ward’s character alone has enraged the series’ diehard fanbase, with some already calling the Australian remake a “woke” project.
The rest of the show’s cast includes an ensemble of New Zealand and Australian comedy talent, consisting of Steen Raskopoulos, Edith Poor, Josh Thomson, Shari Sebbens, Susan Ling Young, Lucy Schmidt, Raj Labade, Zoe Terakes, and more. Pallavi Sharda, who starred opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam (2013), is also a part of this remake.
The series is set to premiere on Prime Video on October 18.
To get a sense of the chaos surrounding the Australian The Office reboot, watch some fan reactions to the trailer on YouTube.
“Dear Prime, it’s not too late to delete this,” one YouTube user said.
“I have been confined to a wheelchair for the past 20 years today I stood up and walked just to turn this off,” another said.
“This looks…. I don’t think there words exist at how awful this looks,” a third said.
“I thought this was going to be bad when I first read about it and was actually surprised to find that it’s actually worse than I could have possibly imagined.”
“This is like one of those cringe, school parody projects…someone actually thought this was a good idea.”
“Honestly this looks absolutely terrible. Did they not understand the vibe of the UK and US versions?”
“I remember when sitcom’s goal was to get laughs. This is just cheezy, predictable, and an unfunny parody of a mockumentary,” another said.
