Art inspires. Especially when you find out that an artist went through great personal troubles to put their work out there just because society deems it unwelcome. Such is the case with English author Emily Brontë, who initially had to publish under the pen name ‘Ellis Bell’.
Her first, and unfortunately, only novel ‘Wuthering Heights’, continues to be a topic of conversation even today. So much so, that not only multiple films and plays have already been based off of it, another one is in the making. This time, starring bigger stars that before.
Oscar winning director Emerald Fennell, known for ‘Promising Young Woman’ and last year’s ‘Saltburn’ will be directing the newest ‘Wuthering Heights’ adaptation. Megastar Margot Robbie and ‘Euphoria’ famed Jacob Elordi will be seen starring as the leading duo!
While details on Fennell’s new take on Emily Brontë’s much-loved romance are scanty, the basic plot will follow the antihero, Heathcliff, as he gets revenge against all the people who kept him away from his one true love, Cathy Earnshaw.
Back when it was published in the 1800s, it was controversial for its depictions of mental and physical cruelty, including domestic abuse, as well as for its challenges to Victorian morality, religion, and the class system. One can only hope the upcoming film addresses these controversies properly, and delivers a much wanted, fan approved feature!
