The love story between Indian OTT viewers and Korean shows is getting stronger with every passing day. Netflix is consistently, frequently, and strategically dropping K-dramas in India, as viewers in the country have become addicted to this particular genre. And we can’t blame them because many of these shows have become worldwide hits. Following this trend, we have another brand-new K-drama that has received a strongly positive reception from viewers in India. Its name? It’s Notes from the Last Row.
Released globally on 26 June 2026, the new Korean limited series Notes from the Last Row is rapidly turning into a major streaming phenomenon. The series has struck a powerful chord globally, but its performance in India is particularly telling. Climbing steadily against heavy local competition, the show has officially broken into the Top 10, currently sitting at No. 8 on the Netflix India Weekly Show Charts.
At its core, Notes from the Last Row is a mind game disguised as an academic mystery drama. Based on the acclaimed Spanish stage play El chico de la última fila by Juan Mayorga, the series follows Heo Mun-oh (played by the legendary Choi Min-sik), a disillusioned university literature professor and failed novelist. Bitterly nursing an old inferiority complex, his dreary routine is shattered when he notices Lee Kang (Choi Hyun-wook), a quiet engineering student who deliberately sits in the very last row of his lecture hall.
When Kang turns in a writing assignment that displays an eerie, dazzling narrative talent, Mun-oh is instantly hooked. He offers the young man private tutorials, hoping to nurture a rare genius while secretly trying to relive his own long-dead literary ambitions.
However, Kang’s stories, which detail the private, intimate lives of those around him, begin to blur the line between reality and fiction.
As the episodes progress, it becomes terrifyingly unclear who is leading the lessons and who is being manipulated in a grander, darker game.
Leading the series is Oldboy star and veteran actor Choi Min-sik. He seamlessly brings a pathetic, desperate vulnerability to Professor Heo. He beautifully portrays a man so addicted to a good story that he ignores every glaring red flag, letting his envy and unfulfilled desires completely blind his judgment.
Alongside him, Choi Hyun-wook delivers a chillingly precise breakout performance. Moving away from his usual charming youth roles, he infuses Lee Kang with a quiet, calculated creepiness.
As word of mouth continues to build on social media over its jaw-dropping finale, Notes from the Last Row on Netflix is proving that sometimes the quietest stories are the ones that leave the deepest impact. Stream it now. Stay tuned for more updates.
