Based on Stephen King’s 2018 eponymous novel, ‘The Outsider’, is adapted for television by Richard Price and stars Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Jason Bateman, Bill Camp, Paddy Considine, and Julianne Nicholson among others.
‘The Outsider’ is set in a small town in Georgia, where a murder investigation leads to an uncomplicated investigation and arrest of Terry Maitland, a suburban parent. But as things proceed, detective Ralph Anderson struggles to solve the bizarre case as he comes across conflicting clues and supernatural elements coming to light that complicate the case.
There’s an eerie tone to the series that is aided by the quietness of the small town and its unexplainable events. The murder mystery drama soon turns into something much darker and chilling.
‘The Outsider’ is often described as a slow burn with excellent performances but is sometimes criticised for too many additional subplots and in the process losing its narrative focus. To be honest it all adds up in the end. Currently streaming on Jio Cinema, ‘The Outsider’ can be your perfect weekend binge in case you are looking for some thrill.
