We often regard our basic freedom to be able to move around and go out whenever we want for granted. Now imagine being confined to a room for years, isn’t that horrifying! And that’s why after you see ‘Room’ on Prime Video you will definitely be more grateful for your freedom.
‘Room’ (2015) is a survival psychological drama directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Emma Donoghue, based on her 2010 novel. The film stars Brie Larson, Jacob Trembley, Joan Allen, Sean Bridges, Tom McCamus, and William H. Macy.
The film follows a young woman Joy (Brie Larson) and her little son Jack, who was born in captivity. After being held captive in an isolated shed for seven years they manage to escape the confinement and gain their freedom. And for the first time the boy gets to experience the outside world.
An internationally co-produced film, ‘Room’ has received several accolades including four nominations at the 88th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. In fact Brie Larson went on to receive Oscar for Best Actress for her role in the film.
‘Room’ was not only successful at the box office but also is critics approved. The film has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the website consensus reads, “Led by incredible work from Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay, Room makes for an unforgettably harrowing—and undeniably rewarding—experience.”
The film very well captures the bond between the mother and her son which becomes powerful force for them in their harrowing times. The joy and trauma after escape is just unmissable. The way ‘Room’ captures the complexities of freedom is so evident and makes you think twice about how often we just don’t realise what we have. If you haven’t seen ‘Room’ yet this is your cue to catch it this weekend on Prime Video.
