It seems like the ‘popcorn bucket’ trend has swept across Hollywood. After Dune 2 and Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, we now have new popcorn buckets for Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance.
Dune 2 ended its fantastic box office run with a staggering global collection of over $711 million. But it wasn’t just Denis Villeneuve’s mastery or the fame of the movie’s leading duo (Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet) that lured fans into theaters; the sequel’s limited-edition popcorn buckets played a key role as well. AMC Theatres launched Dune-themed popcorn buckets in January this year to promote Dune: Part Two. Soon, fans started to ‘meme’ those popcorn buckets. Some even compared the buckets to an artificial vagina. Villeneuve himself called it “an insane marketing idea.”
Following Dune 2’s steps, Marvel Studios also launched Wolverine-styled popcorn buckets as part of its marketing strategy for Deadpool 3. This bucket was shaped like Wolverine’s head with a hilariously large mouth for holding popcorn or other snacks. This trend also benefitted the film, as the movie has minted over $1.3 billion globally.
Sony is going all-in on the marketing for Venom 3, likely because many fans believe this could be the last time they see Tom Hardy as the iconic lethal protector. Viewers will be able to scoop popcorn straight out of the antihero’s mouth!

The Venom 3 popcorn bucket is a fun and creative collectible, and hopefully just the first of many for the threequel. Gimmicky popcorn buckets have become a popular trend, and it’s easy to see why theaters are using them to attract more people.
Slated for a theatrical release on October 25, Venom 3 stars Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Stephen Graham, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
