Is it truly rare to find someone who says no to watching a relaxing, lighthearted, feel-good movie. Even more so yet, when the film has been sworn on by numerous others.
One such film is a recently released Kannada film ‘Laughing Buddha’, a comedy-drama written and directed by M. Bharath Raj, which stars the titular man in the leading role, but not very literally! The film follows a Laughing Buddha-esque happy-go-lucky police head constable named Govardhan. He struggles to prove his worth around his seniors at the police station solely because of his overweightness.
Despite his competency and kind-heartedness, Govardhan is unjustly reduced to a number on the weighing scale. However, when he gets his hands on a new case, he starts working on it to prove himself indispensable.
Funnily enough, this seems to be similar to the case of the movie itself, with respect to OTT release. Not only is it one of the few South Indian titles that haven’t followed the 4-week window, it also debuted to highly positive reviews during its theatrical run. Just because it’s viewership can be limited by virtue of its language barrier, doesn’t mean that it should.
If anything, it is quite the opposite! Set to drop on Prime Video on October 18, the film offers a breath of fresh air, as compared to the recent titles that have been continuously saturating the market recently.
