With excellent hype but the same old plot, Dhruv Sarja’s Martin was released last Friday in Cinemas. While fans had no such high expectations from the film, the outcome it produced over the weekend is highly shocking. It was advertised as the most expensive Kannada film ever made but due to poor VFX and CGI work, the film has become a troll fest since its release.
The Kannada action thriller, which AP Arjun directed, received unfavorable reviews from both reviewers and viewers when it was released in theatres last week. Nonetheless, Dhruva Sarja’s performance and on-screen persona are receiving much praise from fans. The movie failed to strike a spark since the neutral audience gave it a huge thumbs down, and the box office did not show an upward trend over the course of the weekend.
With an opening day total of around Rs 6.30 crores, Martin got off to a strong start at the box office. Regretfully, things just got worse from there. The movie’s earnings on Saturday were a disappointing Rs 5.40 crores.
By Sunday, the movie had only made Rs 3.30 crores, substantially lowering its earnings. This declining trend suggests Martin will probably have a brief theatrical run and a dismal box office performance. What looked like a sure shot Blockbuster for Dhruva Sarja is now becoming his worst nightmare.
Industry experts are skeptical that it will even make Rs 50 crore during its whole theatrical run, given the unfavorable word-of-mouth and critical evaluations. When comparing its budget to its earnings, it will be hard for the action thriller to gain profit. With a slow and sloppy start, only time will tell how things will shape up for Dhruv Sarja’s Martin.
