Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 shows no signs of slowing down at the box office, having minted over INR 715 crores globally. It has another strong weekend ahead to rake in as much as possible before the release of Thamma, which hits theatres on October 21. Post-Diwali, the Rishab Shetty starrer may lose some steam, making it the perfect time for the film’s OTT release, allowing it to maintain momentum and positive word-of-mouth.
According to early online reports, Kantara: Chapter 1 may premiere digitally on Amazon Prime Video on October 30, nearly a month after its theatrical debut. Typically, big blockbusters enjoy a six- to eight-week theatrical run before arriving on streaming platforms, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with this new chapter of Kantara.
Additionally, the film will reportedly be available in multiple languages: Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. However, its Hindi dubbed version is expected to arrive around eight weeks after the theatrical release.
Hombale Films is yet to make an official announcement regarding the OTT release. However, given the massive theatrical reception Kantara has received, an extended theatrical run seems likely.
Fans don’t seem to mind the wait, as Kantara: Chapter 1 has earned every bit of its success and deserves its flowers.
Set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, the prequel delves into the ancient roots of the Buta Kola ritual and the folklore introduced in the 2022 film. It’s a cinematic blend of spirituality, action, and nature. Stay tuned for more updates.
