The wait is finally over! After a long anticipation, we finally have the official trailer for Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, and it teases that the upcoming prequel to the 2022 blockbuster will be grand and massive in both scale and production.
Kantara: Chapter 1 dives into the backstory of the mythological traditions and conflicts from the first film, exploring the origins of the Bhoota Kola ritual and the lore of divine land guardianship. Set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka during the reign of the Kadambas of Banavasi, the prequel blends regional folklore, spirituality, and action to continue the saga of humanity’s relationship with nature and the divine.
Leading man, writer, and director Rishab Shetty looks terrific, savage and ferocious in the trailer. Complementing his fierce presence is Gulshan Devaiah’s menacing Kulashekara, an evil king. Alongside these two powerhouses, we also catch glimpses of Jayaram, Rakesh Poojari, and Rukmini Vasanth in the new clip.
With a reported budget of nearly INR 125 crores, Kantara: Chapter 1 appears bigger and more explosive than the original film. It even boasts a massive war sequence, filmed over 50 days on a 25-acre set in the mountains of Karnataka. The scene involved a cast of nearly 3,000 people, including over 500 fighters, and was choreographed by both national and international experts.
Yes, the trailer arrived a bit later than expected, but it seems Hombale Films is keeping its cards very close to the chest with Kantara: Chapter 1. The release date is just around the corner (October 2), and the hype is sky-high.
