The National Cinema Day was held yesterday with few releases on a regional level. With no big mammoth projects on the special date, there was not much talk about the event. Two small but significant Malayalam movies and one Hindi movie were released in Kerala which had average to mixed audience response.
‘Katha Innuvare’ (Eng. Story till now) is a feel-good family romantic drama that talks about human bondage and conflict in an emotional or satirical way. The movie is written and directed by the national award winner Vishnu Mohan for his debut direction of the movie named ‘Meppadiyan’ (2022). The flick is produced by Krishnamoorthy, Jomon T John Shameer Muhammed, and the director himself for Plan J Cinemas, Imagin Cinemas, and PHF Productions. Also, the Co-producers include Harris Desom and P B Anish respectively.
The cinematography is handled by Jomon T John ISC and editing is done by Shameer Muhammed with the music composed by debutant Ashwin Aryan. As of now, the flick has been receiving positive reports based on factors like breaking its conventional concept of family drama and noteworthy performances by actors Biju Menon, Methil Devika, and Hakim Shajahan respectively.
‘Kuttante Shinigami’ (Eng. The God of Death of Kuttan) on the other hand is a comedy-satire drama that describes the local and self-government along with interactions among people situated somewhere around a local village in Kerala. The two-person communication narrative is the crux of the film which speaks about the social issues in a humorous way.
The movie is written and directed by Rasheed Parakkal, with its producer Ashraf Pilakkal for Manjadi Creations. The technical department has a bunch of debutants handling the cinematography by Shihab Ongallur, editing done by Zian Sreekanth, and music composed by Arjun V Akshaya.
The audience’s reactions were average to mixed responses for the film from its capacities like performances by actors Jaffer Idukki and Indrans aided with a good storyline.
‘Yudhra’ is a Hindi language action-thriller film that had a marginal to mixed experience for the audience. The movie is directed by Ravi Udyawar and written by Shridhar Raghavan with dialogues by Farhan Akhtar and Akshat Ghildial. It was produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar for Excel Entertainment.
Even though the movie had high-octane stunt sequences, the performances and making were not connecting and convincing to the regional audiences. Furthermore, the high-running Malayalam flicks and the similarity in Hollywood and Korean movie exposure to the particular audience circle might have affected the viewer’s intake despite the Rs.99 Strategy. The movie features actors Siddhant Chaturvedi, Malavika Mohanan, Raghav Juyal and Gajraj Rao in important roles.
In a nutshell, there was not much scope in theatres to celebrate the Kerala box office for the special day.
