As per credible reports, three Malayalam feature films are expected to be screened at the festival that have already been accepted and received high critical acclaim by the global audience. Also, these flicks were a profound commercial success of the year that remarked a breakthrough in the industrial box office. Which are these movies?
Within the broad spectrum of 384 contemporary Indian feature films, an official selection of 25 feature films and 5 mainstream films have been chosen that contain movies like ‘Bramayugam’ and ‘Aadujeevitham(The Goat Life)’ from the former and ‘Manjummel Boys’ from the latter respectively.
‘Bramayugam’ (Eng. The Age of Madness) is a 2024 Indian Malayalam-language period folk horror film written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, where Night Shift Studios and YNOT Studios bankrolled the effort.
The film features actors Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan, Amalda Lizz, and Manikandan Achari in important roles. Its narrative contains a well-conceived blend of folklore, myth, and sacred mystery of ancient Kerala.
Furthermore, the movie was released in the black-and-white format and received positive reviews from critics, with praise for the cast performances, cinematography, sound design, background score, and production design.
‘Aadujeevitham (Eng. The Goat Life) is a survival drama film written, directed, and co-produced by Blessy. The film is mainly bankrolled by Visual Romance Productions, which is an international co-production involving companies in India and the United States.
It is an adaptation of the 2008 best-selling Malayalam novel ‘Aadujeevitham’ or ‘The Goat Days’ by Benyamin, which is based on the real-life story of Najeeb, a Malayali immigrant labourer in the Gulf.
The film features actor Prithviraj Sukumaran alongside actors Jimmy Jean-Louis, K. R. Gokul, Talib Al Balushi, Rik Aby, Amala Paul, and Shobha Mohan respectively.
Actor Prithviraj and K R Gokul’s performance, technical aspects like the music by A R Rahman, and the editing by Sreekar Prasad were praised to be remarkable.
‘Manjummel Boys’ is a survival thriller film written and directed by Chidambaram. It is produced by Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony under Parava Films which is based on a real story.
Subsequently, the movie received critical acclaim from critics with praise for its technical aspects like cinematography by Shyju Khalid, production design by Ajayan Chalissery, script, as well as the making.
The movie features an ensemble cast of actors Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., Deepak Parambol, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman and Shebin Benson playing prevalent roles.
IFFI is being organized by the National Film Development Corporation, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with the State Government of Goa, and will be held at Panaji.
