The much-awaited release ‘Mura’ from the Malayalam industry has been joined on the big screens from today, and there is a satiable audience influx post the first show. How is its response? Can it impact the industrial box office?
‘Mura’ (Eng. Tactic) is directed by Muhammed Mustafa which is his second feat with a different sub-genre. Riya Shibu for HR Pictures bankrolled the effort where the screenplay and dialogues are penned by Suresh Babu. Also, the director’s first movie ‘Kappela’ received high critical acclaim from the critics.
The movie has an ensemble cast of actors Suraj Venjaramoodu, Hridhu Haroon, Maala Parvathi, Kani Kusruti, Kannan Nayar, Jobin Das, Anujith Kannan, Yedhu Krishna, P.L Thengapan, Vigneshwar Suresh, Krish Hassan, Siby Joseph and Alfred Jose respectively. A lot of the enlisted actors are new talents in the pool.
Regarding the story idea, the flick has a plot-driven narrative with a relevant political and economic issue that affects societal equilibrium.
Apart from introducing a new pool of young talents, the approaches by the technical as well as writing, and creative wings were expected to be distinctive and unusual based on their previous works. At the same time, the narrative mainly discusses the conventional happenings in the local areas of slums blended with a prevalent socio-political context.
As per the credible responses, actors like Hridhu Haroon have done a great performance with subtlety and distinctiveness, conveying emotions using language dialects and stunt sequences, where the rest of the actors also provide support for the storytelling.
Also, action choreography by PC Stunts along with Christy Joby’s background scores are well suited for the effort. Again, the storyline has slight resemblances from Tamil movies like Sasikumar’s ‘Subramaniyapuram’ and ‘Goli Soda 2’ which makes a predictable narrative.
On the contrary, the movie has a thin storyline with a visible lag in the first half and a developing second half, thereby giving an underwhelming climax with a thin storyline and lack of an emotional connect to the audience.
Moreover, it is a script-driven film with an average attempt but having noteworthy performances from new and young talents and direction is marginal. This effort can be a commercial entertainer but is uncertain of a tremendous impact on the box office.
