The discussions regarding the lack of pre-sales in Malayalam cinema by OTT platforms are ongoing, and several Malayalam flicks are coming with light-hearted ones with lesser expectations. ‘Anandapuram Diaries’ is an upcoming movie, which is one of its kind. When and where it is going to be released? Is there any watchable factor?
‘Anandapuram Diaries’ is a drama flick written and directed by Jaya Jose Raj, where Sasi Gopalan Nair bankrolls the effort under the banner of Neil Productions. The story revolves around Nandini, who is now a middle-aged woman, who returns to Law College to continue her education in a fictional location called ‘Anandapuram’, after facing tough times in life.
The technical labour of the movie includes handling of cinematography by Sajith Purushan, editing done by Appu Bhattathiri and Shaijas K M, and music by a bunch of talents like Shaan Rahman, Jackson Vijayan, and Albert Vijayan. Rahul Raj has overseen the background scores for the movie.
The movie features actors Meena in the lead role, also actors Siddharth and Manoj K Jayan playing important roles, alongside actors Remya Suresh, Jaffer Idukki, Sudheer Karamana, Siddharth Siva, Abhishek Udayakumar, Maala Parvathi and many others in supporting roles.
Despite the low responses and critical acclaim by the audience in the theatrical release, which was on the 1st of March, the movie is expected to satisfy the OTT Audience for its nature of storytelling which is a transition from a feel-good drama to murder-mystery that culminates in a court-drama nature. Do make an effort to watch the movie which is releasing on the 4th of October on the Manorama MAX platform.
However, the demerits involve the close similarity of the thread with the highly acclaimed Malayalam movie ‘Drishyam’ along with weak and non-convincing performances from the actors albeit being popular for their previous feats. Hopefully, better work can be expected in music, background scores, and editing.
