The hit Malayalam police procedural thriller Ronth is now streaming on JioHotstar (as of July 22). It premiered theatrically on June 13 and received a fantastic response from both audiences and critics, emerging as a respectable financial success. Now that it has arrived on OTT, many viewers have begun sharing their thoughts on the latest Roshan Mathew starrer.
Roshan Mathew, known for SonyLIV’s Kankhajura, leads Ronth alongside seasoned actor Dileesh Pothan. The film’s events unfold over a single night, following experienced Sub-Inspector Yohannan (Pothan) and rookie cop Dinanath (Mathew) as they patrol the city, grappling with personal dilemmas, difficult choices, and mounting tension. To survive the chaotic shift, they must put aside their differences and rely on each other.
Upon its theatrical release, Ronth was met with widespread critical acclaim. It currently holds a solid IMDb rating of 7.9 out of 10 (based on over 2,100 ratings). Now, OTT viewers have also begun to weigh in.
Most viewers have praised Ronth as a gripping and realistic Malayalam thriller. They’ve lauded its authentic depiction of police life, Shahi Kabir’s strong direction, and the naturalistic performances by Pothan and Mathew.
Early OTT reactions have also highlighted the film’s avoidance of melodrama, its immersive atmosphere, and its engaging, grounded narrative. However, some viewers found the tragic climax a bit too conclusive. Still, the film is widely regarded as a minimalist yet powerful addition to Malayalam cinema’s growing catalogue of police dramas.
That said, a few viewers have labelled Ronth as “overhyped.”
Overall, based on the current reception, it looks like Ronth is set to perform well on JioHotstar. Stay tuned for more updates. Here are some of the reactions!

Watched #Ronth
The second directorial of Shahi Kabir, after that brilliant debut is thematically similar to the previous but also dwells on how uncertain a cop's life or even day can be who might even carry a bunch of unaddressed, unsolved trauma themselves. Worthy successor. pic.twitter.com/twKf3417xS— #Anish (@moviebeing) July 22, 2025
