Marco is running packed on the big screens. It has become the first A Rated Malayalam film that gained an entry in a 100 crore club. That’s really remarkable. Even in the Nizam belt, the reception has been really fantastic.
Normally Malayalam films are ground breaking in terms of thought, societal norms etc. They create a sort of narrative that is uncomfortable but necessary. Take the case of “The Great Indian Kitchen”. The concept of the film is very problematic for someone who goes by traditional norms but it is a thing we must talk about.
Marco doesn’t do any such thing. It surely does make you uncomfortable but not for any good purpose. The makers simply had one thing in mind, “Make something so stomach churning and bloody that curiosity would drive people to the big screens.”
Marco is a celebration of the beastly instincts within a social person and it doesn’t have anything else. We hope that it doesn’t become a trendsetter in Malayalam cinema otherwise we will lose an industry that always and always dares to bring ground breaking great cinema.
Anyway, talking about the OTT release of the film, it will be take a long time. Thankfully the makers have not made any deal with any OTT platform and they will do it only after the theatrical run is over.
