South Korea has submitted the film ‘12:12:The Day’ as its official selection for the Academy Awards this year.
South Korea has high hopes in the awards this time and it has stunned global audiences many times before. After the historic win of ‘Parasite’ in multiple major categories, there is a chance for the industry to have one more win. The film is a historical thriller and also the highest grossing Korean film of the year. It is based on the 1979 Military coup in Korea. After the assassination of the Korean president Park, security commander Chun Doo-gwang and his military subordinates organise a coup but Lee Tae-shin a commander who thinks that soldiers should not take political action stands against him. Thus a violent and crucial tension arises among the various military factions. Those who are fans of political and historical dramas will love it.
The movie stars actors like Hwang Jung-min, Jung Woo-sung, Lee Sung-min, Park Hae-joon, Kim Sung-kyun etc and the performances are convincing. ‘12.12:The Day’ is directed by Kim Sung-su and the film is well executed in all departments.
