Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” was one of the biggest hits when it was released. The series touched so many subjects that young adults go through with great sensitivity. 13 Reasons Why managed to introduce topics that weren’t properly discussed earlier, especially when it came to teenagers and high school kids. 13 Reasons Why was helmed by Brian Yorkey, who clearly managed to create an amazing show that influenced people in various ways. After 13 Reasons Why, Brian Yorkey has now decided to come back to Netflix with a brilliant new thriller.
Brian Yorkey in a new multi-year overall deal with Netflix has decided to bring his first series into action related to the deal. The first project to come out will be a mystery thriller, titled “Echoes”, which will narrate the story of a pair of twin sisters Leni and Gina. The show is ordered as a limited series with 7 episodes and has already been greenlit by the streamer. “Echoes” is written and created by Australian writer-producer Vanessa Gazy, who will produce the series along with Yorkey.
According to Netflix’s description of the show, the series will follow two identical sisters and their dangerous secrets. Since childhood, both the sisters have swapped lives, which ended up being a double life for both of them as they entered adulthood. They share two homes, two husbands, and one child, but one day all of these fall apart as one of them goes missing mysteriously. Their perfectly planned lives are all in a mess now and one of them needs to solve what the mystery is.
Thrillers can already be confusing and with identical sisters being involved, one can imagine how this show can be. “Echoes” for sure, sounds like the next go-to mystery thriller for all the thrill, mystery lovers out there. The search for the lead actress is underway at the moment, who will have to pull off an amazing double role.
The show along with Yorkey and Gazy will be executive produced by Quinton Peeples, who also is the showrunner alongside Yorkey. The series also is executive produced by Imogen Banks and Endemol Shine Banks Australia. Quinton Peeples is known for his work in Marvel’s “Runaway”.
Brian Yorkey definitely is a treasure that Netflix has got on board. Besides creating “13 Reasons Why”, the accredited playwright has tons of work under his name. He is known to helm theatricals like Disney’s “Freaky Friday”, “Next To Normal”, “If/Then” amongst others. He has been part of teams for movies like “Sluts”, “Time After Time” and also adapting his musical “Next To Normal” into a movie. Yorkey is the reason Netflix successfully forayed into the Young Adult genre as “13 Reasons Why” was amongst the first from the streamer in that particular category. A multi-year deal with Brian Yorkey seems really fruitful for both parties
