Fans of Netflix‘s mind-bending German show ‘Dark’ got the best piece of information they were looking forward to in Netflix’s fan event, TUDUM – the release date of ‘1899’, the new show from the makers of ‘Dark’. Netflix users will be delighted to know that ‘1899’ will premiere worldwide on Netflix on November 17th.
Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odor’s ‘1899’ promises to be as complicated and mind-boggling as ‘Dark’. The first look and tagline of ‘1899’ certainly hints so. The tagline of 1899 says, “What Was Lost Will Be Found”. 1899 seems to be set in the backdrop of the confounding Bermuda Triangle, and centres on the re-emergence of a ship that mysteriously disappeared several years ago.
The story of 1899 is set in the early 20th century. A passenger ship takes off on its journey from London to New York. On board are immigrants of different countries, cultures and ethnicities, on their way to America, the land of opportunities. However, their journey is cut short when they encounter a passenger ship on the high seas. The ship turns out to be the one that disappeared without a trace several ago and appears out of the blue in the middle of the ocean.
The official Netflix synopsis for 1899 reads –
“Immigrants on a steamship travelling from London to New York get caught up in a mysterious riddle after finding a second vessel adrift on the open sea.”
1899 has an eclectic cast, comprising Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard, Andreas Pietschmann, Miguel Bernardeau, Maciej Musiał, Anton Lesser, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Rosalie Craig, Isabella Wei, Gabby Wong, among others. In keeping with the multi-nation cast, 1899 features a multi-lingual script, with the characters speaking in languages as diverse as English, Spanish, French, Polish, German, Danish, Portuguese, Cantonese.
