All diehard movie buffs must already be aware of the entertainment website Letterboxd, an Auckland-based movies-centric social platform for passionate cinephiles. The platform is well known for its various movies-centric international lists such as year-wise ‘Top 50 Movies’ lists and ‘One Million’ & ‘Two Million’ watched lists, etc.
For instance, recently Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ was included in the ‘Two Million Watched Club’ list and that too in a short span of time. Other films on the same list include ‘Joker’, ‘Inception’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Fight Club’, ‘Pulp Fiction’, and ‘Knives Out’, amongst other titles.
But the film which is placed right on the top of the ‘Two Million Watched Club’ Letterboxd list is Bong Joon-ho’s globally acclaimed black comedy thriller ‘Parasite’. And ‘Parasite’ has now achieved the distinction of becoming the first ever movie to reach the ‘Three Million Watched Club’ on Letterboxd. Until now, no other film has reached the three-million figure on the platform.
The basic plot of ‘Parasite’ revolves around a poor and unemployed family who hatch a plan to make their way into a wealthy family house as teachers/workers by pretending to be highly qualified and unrelated to each other. But they get more than what they had bargained for after they enter the house.
‘Parasite’ garnered superb reviews from critics and won four major Oscar Awards including the ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director’ awards. The film holds a critics’ score of 99% on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes. In case you had somehow missed watching the film earlier, we recommend you now stream it in India on the SonyLIV OTT platform.
