In the year 2022, the Hindi film industry witnessed several movies which performed quite well at the box-office. The list includes ‘The Kashmir Files’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyya’, ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, and more recently ‘Drishyam 2’, amongst others.
On the other hand, there were also some Hindi films released in theatres or directly on OTT but, for some reason, could not get the love and recognition they deserved. In a standalone follow-up to our earlier write-up, we have compiled a list of those well-made Hindi language Indian movies which deserved more love along with their OTT platforms where they are streaming in India.
Matto Ki Saikil (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The movie features filmmaker-actor Prakash Jha in the titular role of Matto, a daily wage worker who is the sole breadwinner of his family. He is very attached to his 20-year-old worn-out bicycle. But his life takes a turn when, one day, his bicycle gets severely damaged in an accident.
Nazar Andaaz (Streaming on Netflix)
The comedy drama movie follows a 50+ blind man Sudhir (Kumud Mishra), who lives with his caretaker Bhavani (Divya Dutta). One day, he meets a petty thief Ali (Abhishek Bannerji) and invites him to his home. The incident causes a battle of wits between Bhavani and Ali as both of them have their eyes set on Sudhir’s wealth. Is Sudhir aware of all this?
The Amitabh Bachchan starrer biographical sports drama film is based on the life of the founder of NGO Slum Soccer Vijay Barse. The veteran actor essayed the role of a professor who encourages a ragtag bunch of street children to make a football team. How he transforms an untrained Jhund (crowd) against all odds into a proper team drives the film’s story forward. It was directed by Nagraj Manjule.
Love Hostel (Streaming on Zee5)
The romantic thriller movie is set in rural North India backdrop and features Vikrant Massey and Sanya Malhotra as two lovers Ashu and Jyoti on the run owing to their different religions. But on their trail is a ruthless contract killer Dagar (Bobby Deol) who is hellbent on finding the two love birds.
Thar (Streaming on Netflix)
Helmed by actor-director Raj Singh Chaudhary (of ‘Shadisthan’ fame), this is a Western noir action thriller movie. The plot follows an antique dealer Siddharth (Harshvardhan Kapoor), who visits a secluded village in Rajasthan. Siddharth encounters a veteran cop (Anil Kapoor) who is investigating a series of killings that might be connected to him in the sleepy desert town.
Toolsidas Junior (Streaming on Netflix)
The sports drama set in 1990s Calcutta follows the story of a teenage boy named Midi (Varun Buddhadev), who decides to revive his father’s (Rajiv Kapoor) lost glory after the latter loses in an important snooker tournament. To fulfil his ambitious dream, he takes the help of Mohd. Salaam (Sanjay Dutt), a former snooker champion.
