Shonda Rhines has done it again with Netflix’s latest web series, Inventing Anna. While most critics have given the aforementioned crime drama series mixed reviews, Netflix subscribers around the globe have fallen in love with the show already. The Shondaland-Netflix collaboration has been one of the best things that could have happened for TV series/web series fans and it looks like the streaming platform-production company alliance is about to have its biggest year yet, with 2022.
In July last year, Netflix paid Shonda Rhimes USD 150 million up front, 50 million more than the previous year. This was likely due to the success of the first season of the hit historical drama series, Bridgerton. And after the response of Inventing Anna, we wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix decides to pay her more. Also, the aforementioned Bridgerton series will drop its second season next month. Check out the teaser for the upcoming season of said show which dropped on Netflix’s official YouTube channel last night, at the end of this article.
Shonda Rhimes is best known for the brilliant hospital drama series, Grey’s Anatomy, which she created and also served as one of its writers and producers. But that show (along with a couple of other spin-off series) took over her complete attention since each season had 22-24 episodes – which meant exhaustive hours. Netflix was able to successfully pull her away from ABC-Disney with a bigger contract, better working hours and smaller seasons for each show. And so far, the relationship has been great. We expect it to only improve as time passes.
The first season of Bridgerton and the recently released Inventing Anna is available for streaming on Netflix. The second season of Bridgerton will premiere on the same OTT platform on 25th March 2022.
