Indian (1996) is one of the landmark films in the Tamil film industry. The movie led by Kamal Hassan, Manisha Koirala and Urmila Mantondkar was a massive hit among the audience who appreciated the aggressive storyline, innovation concept and the very idea of the film. We hold the opinion that most filmmakers make films for their own timelines. Thus, it should be judged in the spatio-temporal space.
If we judge the movie according to today’s perspective then disappointment is all we can get. The make-up, the storyline, the choreography, the style of filmmaking and the very concept of fighting against corruption have evolved dramatically.
While the trailer of Indian 2 would have been a rage in 1998, we need to realise that Indian 2 seems to be too outdated.
If the fans are crazy then they might make it a hit just like Gadar 2: The Katha Continues but that is still a disservice to the fans who were given hope after nearly 2 decades.
The reception of the trailer is not good. People are criticising the so-called massy elements and the make-up just looks pathetic. Shankar said Indian 2 is the spiritual successor of Indian instead of a direct sequel. If that is the case, they shouldn’t have encashed the legacy of the film in the first place.
Anyway, let’s wait to see how the film comes out to be.
