The TV adaptation of the famous sci-fi book, “3 Body Problem,” is causing a a big argument in China. The show talks about Earth meeting aliens and has scenes from China’s past, like the Cultural Revolution. Needless to say, China is a sort of black hole from where the passage of information is very difficult. During the Cultural Revolution, China was barely less than a hell. Women were raped, men were killed and so many more brutal things happened. Quite expected, China denies these claims.
Some people in China got mad because they thought the show made China look bad. They also didn’t like that the show was set in London and had actors from different places.
Even though the show wasn’t officially released in China, lots of people still found ways to watch it online. Piracy exists, peeps. But this didn’t stop the arguments.
Some folks liked that the show made China’s reality more famous globally. But others said it was too simple and didn’t show the whole picture.
This whole situation shows how tricky it can be to talk about history in movies or TV shows, especially in China where some topics are sensitive. It also shows the tussle between letting artists make films freely and making sure not to upset anyone in the government or society.
