The burden is definitely astronomical, especially when you always carry the tag that reads, “From the creators of Game Of Thrones”; the show will obviously carry a lot of weight on its shoulders. And some might crumble like 1899, but how does the fate look for 3BP, or as the official title reads, 3 Body Problem?
The show opened with 11M views, but that happened in a three-day window, which might be a good enough opening. And in our previous article, we did enlighten the fact that it was stronger than 1899, but not by a massive margin. The watch hours of both the shows were 81.4M for 3BP and 79.3M for 1899.
In comparison, shows like Wednesday or The Witcher didn’t just gather more stats; they reached an astronomical level altogether.
Wednesday, though released during the week 2 run of 1899, the latter one didn’t really compete. Wednesday grossed 341M watch hours, and that increased in the next week, reaching 411M watch hours.
But as 3 Body Problem reaches its second week, though the series saw a hike in viewership, it isn’t as large as one can expect. The Netflix Tudum website reads 15.6M viewership, which doesn’t really justify the buzz.
See, the show is definitely complicated to enjoy; it needs more attention than The Witcher or Wednesday. You need to keep track of a lot of events, and at the heart of the show is science. Still, the viewership is sort of disappointing.
So, in short, if 1899 was butchered because of the low viewership and massive budget, then 3BP should be first in line. Though it defeats 1899 in viewership, the $20M budget against 1899’s $15M per episode doesn’t really justify this low viewership.
Will 3 Body Problem get a renewal? It possibly will, as the studio might be biased, but the upcoming season might be worth the wait, it might be worth the watch.
Let’s be honest, if 1899 got cancelled, 3 Body Problem should suffer the same fate.
