3 Days To Release, “Thalaivii” Faces Major Issues Over This!

3 Days To Release, “Thalaivii” Faces Major Issues Over This!

Kangana Ranaut’s “Thalaivii” is one movie that has been awaited by not only fans but also movie exhibitors. The movie is much talked about and has high expectations. Thalaivii is all set to release in theatres on the 10th of September. The movie will release in 3 languages, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil, which instantly makes it a game-changer movie. Thalaivii even though it is releasing in theatres, a certain factor of the movie’s release has been troublesome for theatre owners and film exhibitors.

Kangana Ranaut’s “Thalaivii” even though is getting a theatrical release, will start streaming on OTT platforms, right after 2 weeks and film exhibitors are not at all thrilled about this. The movie had already sold its digital rights to both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. It was earlier mentioned that the movie will be getting a 4 week OTT release window, but the right buzz is up that the movie will be making its entry into the OTT world right after 2 weeks and most probably, this will be for Netflix which has the rights for the Hindi version of the movie.

Trade analysts and everyone in the exhibitors business are right now contemplating as to what can be done about the release. It’s a Kangana Ranaut movie and it is expected to do well in theatres, like all her past movies. This is one movie everyone was expecting to do some business at least after Bell Bottom. Theatre owners don’t like the idea of a 4-week window but even then they go for it because that’s the best they can do at this point. But then again, with a 2 week window, the time gets even tighter and people might not even turn up for the first-day premiere.

With such a small window, most audiences will skip theatres with the thought that it will be available on an OTT platform soon. Now, that mentality is what will cost the movie its bit in theatres. Experts have mentioned, rather than bringing in the 2-week window, it’s better to release it directly on OTT, because the makers have already made a profit in the deal and there’s no use in releasing it in theatres. Normally, OTT platforms are very flexible with their releases, so the one who needs to make strong decisions are the creators of the film.

Now, with just three days in hand and the hype for the movie is all up, it’s getting complicated for the theatre owners and exhibitors. Vishnu Vardhan Induri, maker of “Thalaivii” has mentioned how this decision made sense right now, given the circumstances. But then again, releasing a movie on an OTT platform just 2 weeks after the theatrical release doesn’t make sense at all. It’s either one releases the movie in theatres, and gives it some time to make some business, or else directly go for the OTT release. Many analysts and experts have mentioned that since good profit is already made on the deals, it’s better to take the digital route than to have a namesake theatrical release.

Now, it will be interesting to see with such news, how Thalaivii fares at the Box Office. Will Thalaivii do enough business in the Box Office before its OTT release or will it just be another movie at theatres? All these will be answered when the movie releases on 10th September. But one thing needs to be cleared, even though the digital window is made short, dates for OTT releases haven’t been announced as of yet.
