Helmed by Nagraj Manjule (Director – ‘Jhund’) and set in the interiors of Maharashtra, the romantic drama movie revolves around the love story of a fisherman’s son and the upper-class and affluent daughter of an influential politician. How their relationship sparks tensions in the village forms the film’s crux.
Pariyerum Perumal, 2018 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The film’s story follows a young law student Pariyerum Perumal (played by Kathir), who begins to develop a friendship with a higher caste girl Jothi (Anandhi) in his college. But their relationship does not go well with the girl’s family. The critically acclaimed movie was directed by Mari Selvaraj (Director – ‘Karnan’) in his directorial debut.
Asuran, 2019 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The action-drama movie directed by Vetrimaaran narrates the story of an underprivileged farmer named Sivasamy (Dhanush), whose young, hot-headed son kills an affluent and upper-class landlord because of a land dispute. Now, it’s up to the pacifist patriarch to save his son from the wrath of the landlord’s family. The movie was adapted from Poomani’s acclaimed novel Vekkai and had won two National Film Awards for ‘Best Feature Film’ and ‘Best Actor’ (Dhanush).
