Many of you gamer fans out there should know this by now – Sony Pictures Releasing is finally dropping the live-action adaptation of the award-winning game series, ‘Uncharted‘. The film is making its way to theatres in the last week of February and it has many of us excited; even the non-gamers, because of the casting of Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. However, live-action game adaptations haven’t been done well in the past, even if you look at films from popular game franchises.
Sure, films like ‘Mortal Kombat’, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ and ‘Resident Evil’ did well in the International Box Office while other adaptations like ‘Warcraft’ and ‘Pokemon: Detective Pikachu’ have also got some critical acclaim, yet no live-action game adaptation film has managed to be a box office wonder and critically praised feature. The recently released 2-minute clip from the ‘Uncharted’ film, however, seems to be driving this point home. While we don’t think the film will flop (tentatively hoping), there are 3 mistakes in this short clip alone which we think could be quite common in said film. Read about it below:
The Protagonist’s Plot Armour Is Thick
While most films and TV shows usually won’t let the main character die (see – James Bond, most superheroes, etc.), they are usually not as blatant as we see in this clip alone. Nathan Drake (who Tom Holland portraying) should have died five times in this 2-minute sequence – but his plot armour is too thick. We expect this to be a regular occurrence for both Drake and Sully (Mark Wahlberg’s character) throughout this movie.
Nathan Drake’s Surprising Upper-Body Strength
Nathan Drake somehow finds the strength to push himself from cargo-payload-thing to another while “flying” in the opposite direction at hundreds of miles per hour. And he does this multiple times apparently. Leaps of logic will be common in this feature.
Enemy Has Plot Armour?!
One of the henchmen/thugs gets shot in the head dead centre. However, he exits the plane screaming. Well, he is dead either way but that is some ridiculous continuity error.
Hopefully, this film will not be as bad as these nitpicked problems from the clip, but you can never know until the feature drops. Check out ‘Uncharted’, when the film drops on theatres on February 22nd 2022 (22-02-2022…wow). View the aforementioned 2-minute clip down below:
