Adapted from a novel written by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi, this psychological crim-thriller film revolves around a detective who returns to Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain to investigate murder cases. To his intrigue the murders resemble the pattern of the mass serial killer who is about to get released from prison after serving his 20 years.

The Paramedic, written by David Desola and Hèctor Hernández Vicens, is a Spanish thriller film that follows Ángel (Mario Casas) who used to work as a paramedic for emergency services on an ambulance. His life takes a dramatic turn after a tragic accident and he gets bound to a wheelchair. While he is still unable to face his new reality, his partner Vane (Déborah François) leaves him. Ángel develops a deadly obsession with Vane and unleashes a sinister revenge plot.

The story follows inspector Amala Salazar who has now returned to the Baztán valley after a year to investigate mysterious suicides case that seem to follow a pattern. And this time it’s all the more intriguing as her family is involved.

This one is a mix of black comedy and thriller. A group of strangers gets stuck in a bar in Madrid, after witnessing a murder and soon realise they have come in contact of a deadly virus. They later get the vaccine which is less than what’s required, this leads to panic kicking in and people dying.

Dark Desire is the story of a prestigious lawyer and college professor, Alma Solares (Maite Perroni), who while on a weekend getaway gets involved with a much younger man Dario Guerra (Alejandro Speitzer). She returns thinking of forgetting it all but things take a drastic turn and her life becomes a living hell. A minor adventure turns into an incendiary passion and ultimately into a dangerous obsession.

Hugo Beltrán (Jesús Mosquera) is a young charming stripper who gets imprisoned for killing his lover’s husband. Though Hugo does not remember what happened that night, he believes that he was framed wrongfully for the murder. Now out on parole after spending seven years in prison, Hugo needs to find proof to prove his innocence.

Based on the eponymous novel by Dolores Redondo, this is the first part of the Baztan trilogy. The story follows an FBI trained cop who returns to her Navarre hometown to find a serial killer that targets teens. While doing so she also has to fight her past demons that keep returning. Hache is a thrilling crime drama set in the 1960s Barcelona, Spain and revolves around the world of drug lords and drug trafficking. In the first season, Helena, who later becomes Hache, gains the love and trust of a heroine cartel leader and sharpens her skills to atrain more prominence in the organisation. Later, Hache will skillfully grab the opportunity to start a heroine production lab. Based on the 2006 non-fiction book ‘Paesa, el espía de las mil caras’ by Manuel Cerdán, this Spanish thriller is about a former secret service agent who after getting betrayed by the government he once served plots a revenge plan by stealing money from a corrupt public officials who had embezzled millions of dollars.

Now this sci-fi horror-thriller is based on a very interesting concept where the the story is set in a futuristic prison which is a large, tower-style “Vertical Self-Management Center”. The inmates are switched randomly every month and are fed via a platform which, initially filled with food at the top floor, gradually descends through the tower’s levels. This ultimately is bound to lead to a rebellion with people on the lower levels getting leftovers and some getting nothing.

Another one of Orial Paulo’s outstanding works, this one is a mystery-thriller that involves a glitch in the time-space continuum. This allows a woman to travel back 25 years where she saves the life of a young boy. But this somehow results in the disappearance of her daughter. How the mother tries to correct all this forms the crux of the film’s story.

This political thriller revolves around Fernando Barrientos, head of the National Security Directorate, who is loosely based on the real-life Fernando Gutiérrez Barrios, director of the infamous DFS intelligence agency. The series shows how he manipulates, betrays and doesn’t hesitate in killing all in order to attain political power and reach the top.
4. The Invisible Guest, 2016: Netflix

Remember Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Badla’? It was the official remake of this very Spanish film with just the gender reversal of the lead actors. The story follows a young businessman who mysteriously ends up waking next to her dead lover in a locked hotel room. He hires a reputed lawyer to defend his case, and they work overnight to find out what happened.
3. Wild Tales, 2014: Amazon Prime Video

Wild tales is a black comedy thriller anthology film that features six different stories all driven by the theme of violence and vengeance.
