If you like lighthearted simple Bengali films, here is some good news for you. Four movies, old and new, from the National Award Winning director Sumon Ghosh are now streaming on OTT. The movies are available to watch on Hoichoi from now on.
One is ‘Searching For Happiness’ that came out in 2021. The movie stars Sudipta Chakroborty, Arindam Ghosh, Shahida Neera. It tells the story of a four year old girl who tries to find happiness in the Kolkata streets.
The second movie is ‘Peace Heaven’. ‘Peace Heaven’ came out in 2016 and has veterans like Soumitra Chatterjee, Paran Bandyopadhyay and Arun Mukhopadhyay. They play three friends who plan to build a mortuary for themselves. It deals with the subject of old age, seclusion and finding a will to live again.
The third one is unique even in its name. ‘Shyamal Kaku Corporation Er Baati Ebong…’ translates to ‘Shyamal Uncle, The Light Of The Corporation, And…’ The movie had its release in 2012 and stars Shyamal Bhattacharya and Arindam Ghosh. The movie tells the story of a retired professional who takes up the cause of electricity wastage and acts against it.
The last movie in the list is ‘Podokkhep’ and it has, once again, Soumitra Chatterjee. This time with the talented Nandita Das. This movie gave huge acclaim to the director. It got two awards in the 2008 National Awards.
