5 Facts About Netflix’s Money Heist, That Every Fan Should Know!

Money Heist has become a show that is known, being watched, and loved by almost everyone today. The show in India has seen a lot of popularity, it has been a massive hit in India and this is quite evident in netflix’s Top Charts. There are always two series in the Indian top charts that never really move. One of them is the classic “FRIENDS” and the other is…yes, you guessed it right, it’s “Money Heist”. To continuously stay on the list is a task in itself and Money Heist has maintained its position.

This only shows how famous the series has been. Now, there are always some factors in a story that are never highlighted, and that normally ends up coming out as Trivia or Behind The Scene story. So today, we have 5 such trivia about Money Heist that are about the basics of the show. There are many more, but these 5 form the basic crux of what and how the entire show has been created and planned.

Professor Too Has A Name

Every Money Heist fan knows, the actors in the movie have names of cities rather than their names being used. For example, we know Tokyo, Nairobi, Lisbon, Denver, and all others. The one man who doesn’t have a name according to everyone is “The Professor”. Everyone addresses him as the Professor and hence if he had a name, it never popped up. But, apparently according to the makers and the actor Alvaro Morte himself, the character does have a name. The Professor’s code name is “Vatican City”. The name was given to him, because Vatican City is one of the most protected and highly secured places in the world, which resembles the situation of The Professor in the show, and hence, he was named that. But as of now, his name hasn’t appeared anywhere on the screens.

Incomplete Stories

Like other shows, where the writers write a character’s story from start to end and plan it out eventually, it isn’t the case for Money Heist. The writers onboard never have completed the character’s story from start to end, right at the beginning. They write it episode-wise and see how they are being loved by the audience and what has been the characters, which are irking the audience. Keeping all these in mind they move ahead with the story. This means, none of the characters that died in the story, were never destined to die, at least in the beginning. But the deaths of the characters have also played an important role. They weren’t killed off just like that, every death in the series led to a whole different emotion, be it Berlin, be it Moscow, be it Oslo or Nairobi. They were written to make people more attached to the series, rather than move away.

The Title

The title as we all know is “Money Heist”, but in Spanish, the title is “La Casa de Papel”, which literally translates into “House of Paper”. It was only after Netflix was on board, that Money Heist came in as the international name. But before “La Casa de Papel”, the show had a whole different name to it, and that is “Los Desahuciados”, which translates to “The Outcasts”. This was given by the show’s creator considering how the characters in the series are outcasts in their way. For a long time, it was even there that people didn’t know La Casa de Papel and Money Heist are actually the same shows.

Location

The location for the first two seasons of the series is the “Royal Mint Of Spain”. It is the official building of the Spanish Government that prints the money. Till a certain point in time, it was almost finalized that the series would be shot in the original Royal Mint of Spain, but in the nick of time, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Business didn’t grant permission for the series to be shot there. Hence, a similar-looking building was erected to replace the original mint in the series. The inside shots were pretty easy since most Spanish buildings had similar architecture and design; they were able to find the perfect spot that resembled the Royal Mint of Spain’s interiors too.

As for the 3rd and 4th seasons, the heist was situated at the “Bank Of Spain”. The plan that was executed in the season of getting in and out of the bank along with the money and gold being taken out from the vaults, has some reality to it. The creators had spent a significant amount of time making plans and blueprints. They have had experts brought in that helped them in understanding the structure of Bank Of Spain and from the plans that are shown in the series, it is actually a plan that can be executed in reality too. Meaning, if someone took the plans of the show and wanted to start a heist, it is very much possible, but of course, it won’t be that easy. It is one of the most difficult places in Spain that can be penetrated, so even if you have the plan, it’s a big NO-NO.

The Tribute

Every fan has seen the masks that the robbers wear to hide them. This is a mask that they used to hide amongst the hostages, the public, and the police. The mask is called the Dali mask and comes from the great Spanish artist Salvador Dali. Salvador Dali, with his paintings and his contributions to the world of art, has had a certain effect on people. Salvador Dali was known for his bizarre style and anti-modern capitalist fundamentals, which he inculcated in his work and his art. His views have left a significant impact on the history of Spain and also the people worldwide who followed his fundamentals. The show decided to use the Dali mask, to give this great man a tribute and to also show how the idea of the series and his ideas of the anti-modern capitalist world, might have met at a certain point.
