Streaming service Amazon Prime Video has churned out some well-made shows since it started operating in India. The OTT platform boasts of some well-crafted web series such as ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Paatal Lok’, ‘Bambai Meri Jaan’, ‘Farzi’, and more recently ‘Mumbai Diaries S2’.
On the other hand, there are also some Prime Video original Indian shows which have either ended or there hasn’t been any concrete update for their continuation / revival for another season. Here are five such web series which deserve another shot and should be revived / renewed by Amazon Prime Video India.
Laakhon Mein Ek
The show’s first season, which revolved around the travails of an average student who is forced to prepare for IIT entrance exam, failed to fetch a unanimously positive response from viewers.
However, the show’s second season stars Shweta Tripathi as a doctor who must deal with resistance from villagers and corruption while conducting a cataract camp, was received quite well by critics. Considering the encouraging feedback, the show deserves to be revived for at least one more season.
Guilty Minds
The legal drama series helmed by Shefali Bhushan features Shriya Pilgaonkar and Varun Mitra in the lead roles. They essay the characters of two young and ambitious lawyers who find themselves on the opposite ends of the ethical spectrum while fighting their cases.
The well-crafted series is one of the few authentically executed legal dramas made by an Indian filmmaker. The show’s opening season received positive reviews and should definitely be renewed for another season. An official update from Prime Video is eagerly awaited in this regard.
Suzhal: The Vortex
Set amidst the backdrop of the grave looting festival Mayanakollia, the investigative thriller series revolves around a missing young girl in a small place in Tamil Nadu. The show features parallel plotlines of that of a woman hellbent on finding her sister, investigation by cops, and a father who is desperately trying to find his daughter.
In an earlier interview, the show’s creators Pushkar-Gayatri had revealed that they kind of started writing a second season and that the idea is strongly planted. But other than that, there is still no official confirmation about the status of ‘Suzhal: The Vortex Season-2’ by Amazon Prime Video.
Jubilee
The period drama series created by Vikramaditya Motwane is perhaps the most painstakingly developed show, which was reportedly in the works for around a decade. The story focuses on various characters and the dreams, rivalries, and scandals related to them during the golden age of the Hindi film industry.
There is no doubt that creating a massively mounted project like ‘Jubilee’ is an expensive affair. But if Amazon Prime Video greenlights a second season, it would be a visual and artistic treat for cinephiles. As per a report, Vikramaditya Motwane said that a second season was being written. So, the ball seems to be in Amazon’s court now. Please make it happen!
Dahaad
The crime drama web series features Sonakshi Sinha as a relentless but underdog cop, who investigates a series of mysterious murders of women found dead inside public bathrooms. She begins to realize that it’s all the work of a ruthless serial killer. The show’s first season was admired by audiences and critics alike.
Some time back, the show’s protagonist Sonakshi Sinha expressed her willingness to be part of a potential ‘Dahaad Season-2’ and to play the character again. But a second season renewal depends on its creators Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, and of course, Amazon Prime Video. But the story, characters, and setting warrant a second season. What do you think?
